The stage-nudity of male characters is relatively common in comic scenes of the fifth century and first half of the fourth century, in both Attic and South Italian vase-painting. A review of the material evidence shows that stage-nudity is particularly frequent in scenes of vigorous physical activity; a few scenes indicate plot-prompted disrobing. These scenes indicate that stage-nudity may have been more common in the performance of Aristophanes than previously believed based on textual evidence alone. This paper reconsiders possible instances of male-stage nudity in extant plays, including the possibility of extended stage-nudity in Peace and Knights.

Archeologies of pleasure version Burn

These paintings explore the territory and sensations of pleasure from the inside out. They use erotic, biomorphic forms that in¬ter¬twine and fold back on themselves, creating ambiguity about where one form begins and an¬other ends. The forms suggest and insinuate without becoming anything fixed or knowable; they make reference to bodies and internal organs without ever literally becoming these things.

An Archaeology of Pleasure is loosely based on parler femme, a linguistic theory developed by the French Feminist author Luce Irigaray. The best English translation of this is not to speak about women or for women, but to speak as woman. This speaking as woman involves “speaking woman’s pleasure” and uses the trope of “two lips touching” as a way to represent the idea that meaning, though it cannot be truly fixed, is found through context; it is through the touch¬ing of forms (or words), their placement and connectedness, that they derive their significance.

In this long period of absence from performative and scenic practice, Federica Dauri wondered a lot about the role of the body in this complex historical moment. The image of those solitary bodies relegated in their homes. The dead bodies, the distant bodies seen as a threat, lived in private and were deprived of any contact.
Are the bodies an extraordinary and complex machine that keeps human beings alive and allows them to perform actions, or the vehicle through which they express what they are? Bodies are objects—not only mechanical and not only personal or subjective but above all social. Bodies are sensitive, they are memory, they are time and flesh, they are material and immaterial. Finally, bodies are also the surface of the indelible signs of the passage of time, and the history of each person is inscribed on.
Following the performance, a round table conversation will take place between the audience, the choreographer, and the dancers in regards to the whole creative process.
